Systems Biomedicine
The Cancer Studies day put me in touch with a new PhD programme here at King’s College. I have been asked to provide some input on presentation skills to this group of PhD’s currently being recruited. These students will work across a number of discipline boundaries – notably cellular and structural biology, bio-inormatics, engineering, bio-physics, mathematics and medicine.
The students will spend part of thier time as ‘visitors’ in other research departments. The requirement to communicate across discipline boundaries will be paramount -hence the need for communications training.
Not sure what I will be able to do – but I will meet some academics later this week to sketch out some ideas.
The notion of doing some training within the departments instead of drawing them out to the Graduate school provision looks an interesting development. It may also get me closer to the academics – their issues and problems.
